A Focus on Ethics

A foundational focus of the Vanderbilt AI Law Lab curriculum is the ethical use and development of AI in legal services. We are deeply committed to understanding and addressing the ethical implications of employing AI tools in legal practice, ensuring that these technologies enhance justice and fairness. Simultaneously, we seek to delve into the ethical foundations of AI models and platforms themselves, exploring the values embedded in their design and operation. This dual approach ensures that our engagement with AI is not only innovative but also responsible and reflective of our commitment to ethical legal practice.

Class of 2024

Jared S. Bauman

Our course prepared us to engage in meaningful conversations about AI with our clients and colleagues (in work through the Stanton Foundation First Amendment Clinic). In particular, our lessons were such that our team knew how to responsibly use AI from the get-go, adding to and refining—but never replacing—our research and work product. None of this would have been possible without our class and the foundation it gave us.
