The Vanderbilt Law School Board of Advisors plays a crucial role in carrying out the school’s mission of providing an unparalleled legal education to students and an intellectually vibrant community in which faculty can pursue teaching and scholarly excellence. The Board of Advisors meets at the law school each fall during Reunion Weekend and each spring in conjunction with the annual Founders Circle Dinner.
Eleven new members were named to the board last fall, and seven board members extended their terms.
New Members
Samar Subhi Ali ’06 (BS’03) left her position as assistant commissioner for international affairs with the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development in November. She is working as a consultant to the federal government.
John Arterberry ’73 retired from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Criminal Division, where he was executive department chief of the Fraud Section, in October. He lives in Washington, D.C.
Adele El-Khouri ’13 is clerking for Judge Stephen Higginson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Ike Lawrence Epstein ’92 (BA’89) is COO of Zuffa in Las Vegas, Nevada, which owns and operates the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He is also of counsel at Lewis Roca Rothgerber, focusing on gaming, sports and entertainment law.
John Hand ’95 (JD/MBA) is founder of Iron Bridge Capital Partners, a boutique private equity and development firm in Atlanta.
Abrar Ahmed Hussain ’98 is a founder of Elixir Capital in Palo Alto, California, and teaches on the adjunct law faculties at the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of California, Hastings.
David Lucey ’89 is vice president and global head of risk for Pembroke Real Estate, an international real estate firm that acquires, manages and develops properties, based in Boston.
Brian D. Rogers ’94 is a partner at Fried Rogers Goldberg in Atlanta, where he focuses on personal injury law.
Eduardo G. Roy ’87 is a founding partner of Prometheus Partners, a San Francisco law firm that focuses on start-up companies, intellectual property, entertainment, technology transactions and corporate law.
D. Blaine Sanders ’84 is a partner at Robinson Bradshaw & Hinson in Charlotte, where he focuses on complex litigation dealing with commercial real estate development, intellectual property, entertainment and sports, and employment law.
Lawrence Allen Vranka Jr. ’89 is founder and chairman of New York-based Canonchet Group, a consulting firm that focuses on corporate organization and governance and commercial financing, and serves clients in the legal, financial, economic development, environmental, nutritional, medical and education sectors.

Rene Irene Augustine ’90 lives and works in Bethesda, Maryland. She served as associate counsel in the White House Counsel’s Office from 2005 to 2009.
Charles B. Cox III ’75 (BA’72) is president of Lightning Trading, an options trading firm in Chicago he founded in 2005.
Frank M. Garrison ’79 (BA’76) is the president of C-III Capital Partners in Nashville. He also serves as chairman, executive managing director and principal of Island Capital Group and as executive managing director of Anubis Advisors.
Justin Ryan Ishbia ’04 is a founder and managing partner of Shore Capital Partners, a health care-focused private equity firm in Chicago.
Andrew M. Kaufman ’74 is of counsel with Kirkland & Ellis in Chicago, where he headed the firm’s debt finance practice until his retirement in 2011.
Robert S. Reder ’78 is a professor of the practice of law at Vanderbilt and a retired partner of Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy in New York, where he continues to consult.
Mark D. Schein ’91 is senior vice president and chief compliance officer at York Capital Management in New York.
