The work of Michael A. Newton, who directs the International Law Practice Lab, and his Practice Lab students is featured in an article by Mariah Timms in the Dec. 13 edition of The Tennessean.
Newton’s work with Iraqi judges is funded by a grant from the U.S. State Department. The goal is to help Iraqi courts prosecute ISIS and process counterterrorism cases in accordance with international human rights norms. The article mentions a team of VLS students, including Cait Martins ’22 and Emily Webb ’22, who worked as Practice Lab students to develop a 300-page manual to support the work of attorneys prosecuting cases in international criminal tribunals.
