Judge Robert Eric DuFour was appointed to the Superior Court of California on November 13, 2020 by Governor Gavin Newsom. He was sworn in on December 7, 2020.

Jennifer Halvas has been appointed to partner of Cityview, an LA-based multifamily investment management and development firm. Posted 2.12.21

Barnes Erika Barnes has been elected to the six-member Management Committee for Stites & Harbison. She will serve a two-year term. Stites & Harbison’s Chair and the Management Committee serve as the firm’s board of directors and are responsible for all matters relating to the management of the firm.  Members of the Management Committee are nominated for election by a Nominating Committee drawn from the members of the firm.

Additionally, the Mid-South Commercial Law Institute (MSCLI) recently elected Erika Barnes as a director of its 25-member Board of Directors.  She will serve a five-year term. The Mid-South Commercial Law Institute has been conducting annual Continuing Legal Education seminars on commercial and bankruptcy law topics for 40 years.  The MSCLI Board of Directors, composed of attorneys from across Tennessee, manage all aspects of producing the annual seminar. Posted 4.21.20

Heather M. Ducat became a partner at Troutman Sanders in Atlanta. Her practice focuses on the representation of public companies in connection with corporate governance, Sarbanes-Oxley, securities regulations, NYSE and Nasdaq listing standards and securities offerings (including 144A debt offerings). She has represented public companies and underwriters in securities offerings, including equity and secured and unsecured debt, exceeding $1 billion. Heather also represents both public and private companies in merger and acquisition transactions ranging in size from under $100 million to more than $7 billion, and she advises public companies on internal restructuring projects, including consolidations, inversions and spinoff transactions. Posted 3.20.20

Amy Todd Holmes has been named Vice President & General Counsel for Express Energy Services, a leading oilfield services company and premier provider of products and services including well construction and well testing services. In this role, Holmes will serve as member of the company’s Executive Team and will oversee the company’s Legal and Risk department. As General Counsel, Holmes is accountable for Express’ risk management strategies and policies and will provide strategic counsel on legal, risk, business and operational matters. Posted 3.20.20

  Peter N. Hall has been named a 2017 “Georgia Rising Star”. Peter is senior counsel at Chamberlain Hrdlicka in Atlanta where he practices on labor and employment law. Posted 3.22.17

Adam Ramsay Michael of Nashville died November 22. Adam graduated from MBA before attending Duke where he earned his degree in history. He returned to MBA to teach history for two years. He then enrolled in Hastings Law School in Berkley, California before transferring to Vanderbilt to complete his J.D. Upon graduation, he served as a public defender for Sumner County for two years. Returning to Vanderbilt, Adam became a development officer for Blair School of Music, followed by his most recent employment at the Nature Conservancy of Tennessee. He is survived by his mother, Susan, his daughters Avery, Madelyn and Vera, and his fiancé. Posted 1.19.17

Amy Holmes has been named the 2016 Best Deputy General Counsel of a small legal department by the Houston Business Journal. Amy is the assistant general counsel for Scientific Drilling International. Posted 10.17.16

Crystal Love Ball of Vanceburg, Kentucky, died June 5, 2016. She was 36. Crystal was born in Nashville, Tennessee and attended Morehead State University before earning her J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School. Crystal worked as a public defender for the Boyd and Mason County offices. She is survived by her parents. Posted 7.25.16

Richard Clay Travis (MFA’08) has signed a multi-year deal to continue licensing his “Outkick the Coverage” website to Fox Sports. Clay is a former columnist for and FanHouse and a former editor for Deadspin. He founded “Outkick the Coverage”, a college football blog, in 2011. Posted 7.8.15

Autumn Joy Witt Boyd has opened a law practice in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the Law Office of Autumn Witt Boyd.  Ms. Boyd is a lawyer who advises small businesses, online companies, startups, and individuals on their business and intellectual property matters. Posted 6.25.15

Timothy Alden French  has been made of counsel with Blank Rome. James Robert Craig has opened Craig Henry, a firm focused exclusively on the practice of consumer law in Louisville, Kentucky. Lauren Gudritz Brown and John Brown ('04) welcomed a son, Ryan Robinson Brown, on January 16. Ryan joins big sister Elizabeth. Lauren is associate director of the Center for Professional Development and Career Strategy at Emory University School of Law, and John works at Georgia-Pacific as tax counsel in Atlanta. Kyonzte Hughes-Toombs (BA'01) and her husband, DeAngelo Toombs, welcomed their second child, Jayden Christopher Toombs, on September 22, 2013. Jayden joins big sister, Nina Madison Ann. Jarrod Forster Reich has joined the faculty of Florida State University College of Law. In addition to teaching Legal Writing, Jarrod will be teaching a one-week orientation and coaching a moot court team for a competition in October at Emory. Posted 8.19.13

R. Clay Travis (MFA '08), co-host of the sports call-in show "3HL" on 104.5-FM, has announced he will be part of Fox Sports 1's new college football pregame show. "Fox College Football Pregame Show," which will go up against ESPN's popular "College GameDay," will air 9-11 a.m. Saturdays throughout the football season. Travis said he would continue to co-host "3HL" at least until his current contract ends next year. Travis' role will include being a part of updates throughout the day as well as postgame coverage for the network, which plans to air three to four games each Saturday. Travis spent the previous two years working with NBC Sports Network covering college sports along with hosting The Clay Travis Show on NBC radio on Saturdays. He will no longer work with NBC television but will continue to host his radio show. He also will continue to write his column for his website, Outkick the Coverage. Posted 8.19.13

James Robert Craig and Jacquelyn Jackson Craig (BS'97) welcomed their second child, Catherine May Craig, into the world on March 18.  James was also named one of Louisville's Top Forty Under 40 Businessmen to Watch by Louisville's Business First newspaper. Posted 7.15.13

Rachael M. Crews , a shareholder at Gray Robinson, was listed as a "Rising Star" by Super Lawyers. Rachael practices in eminent domain, civil litigation, insurance coverage and defense, professional liability defense, construction litigation and creditor's right in the Orlando office of Gray Robinson. Nicole Dawidowicz D'Amato Sherwood was married to Patrick Kennedy Sherwood on June 22 in St. Paul R.C. Church, Waterford, Connecticut. The Rev. Joseph Whittel celebrated the afternoon mass, which was followed by a reception in The Branford House Mansion at Avery Point, Groton, Connecticut. The couple is spending their honeymoon on an African safari in Tanzania. Bridesmaids included Ashley L. Fisher (JD'04). Nicole, a member of the New York Junior League, is director and senior counsel of intellectual property at Diageo North America. Daniel Jacob Steimel and Natalie Mathews Steimel welcomed their daughter, Annalee Jane, on October 7, 2012. Annie joins her three big brothers, Jake (5), Max (2), and Sam (2). The family resides in Phoenix, Arizona. Natalie is the director of attorney recruiting and development for Snell & Wilmer and Dan is assistant general counsel for Grand Canyon University. Heather J. Hubbard was recently announced one of The Nashville Business Journal's "40 Under 40." Heather is a partner at Waller in the firm's Nashville office, where she is deputy practice group leader of the firm's trial and appellate group. Christine Noelle Rickard and Francisco Reyes welcomed their first child, Elizabeth, on May 18, 2012. Christine has recently joined the faculty of Florida International University School of Law as an assistant professor in the school's legal skills & values program. Prior to joining the school, she had instructed students at Vanderbilt Law School and Nova Law Center. Damon Michael Brown and his wife, Elizabeth Brown, welcomed their first child, Mason Conner, on December 28, 2011. Damon was installed as president of the John M. Ashley Jones Johnson was appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry to the Texas Judicial Council for a term set to expire June 30, 2017. The council studies and reports on the organization and practices of the Texas judicial system. Johnson is an attorney at Gibson Dunn and Crutcher. She served as a law clerk on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States. Posted 10.17.11

Damon M. Nicole D'Amato has assumed the position of Global Intellectual Property Counsel at Samsonite, the world's largest luggage brand, following six years as an associate in the New York office of Ropes & Gray. Nicole assumes primary responsibility for management of the "Samsonite" and "American Tourister" brands worldwide and the strategic, tactical and operational policies that protect the company's intellectual property assets.
