 Jillian Mastroianni has joined Trail, Coleman & Stearns.  Jillian focuses her practice on estate planning, probate and related business and tax law. Additionally, Jillian has taught basic will drafting to Vanderbilt law students participating in the school’s veterans’ legal clinic for the past several years. Posted 4.24.18

Alex Fisher has joined Frost Brown Todd in Nashville as a senior associate in the regulated business practice group and on the health care service team. Posted 5.18.17

Bethany Jo Whelan (BMUS ’07), formed OspreyIP along with member Jim Cartiglia, paralegal Kimberly Conklin, and senior associate Megan A. Gustafson (BS ’99), all formerly employed at Patterson. OspreyIP is a boutique law firm based in Brentwood. Posted 2.21.17

Laura Elizabeth Deck married Charles William Stones IV June 4 in Danvers, Massachusetts. Laura is an attorney-adviser in the office of the legal adviser at the State Department in Washington, D.C. William is a senior associate in the Hogan Lovells tax department. Posted 7.25.16

Claire Elizabeth Brown (MBA’12) joined the Marathon Scholars board of directors as secretary. Marathon Scholars is a non- profit in Portland that partners adults and talented low-income children to help make college a reality. Claire is an associate in the business department of Tonkon Torp’s Portland office. Posted 5.3.16

Grant Everett Starrett is included in an article about millennials running for Congress. Grant is running as a Republican to represent Tennessee’s Fourth District. He had raised $691,000 for his campaign at the end of 2015. Posted 4.15.16

Eric Daniel Jackson has joined Kutak Rock in Fayetteville, Arkansas as an associate attorney. Posted 4.5.16

Robert Davis Mello   has joined Bass Berry Sims in Nashville as an Associate. Posted 3.14.16

Rachel Anna Beck is an associate with Bryan Cave in Washington, D.C. where practices with the commercial litigation client service group. Posted 1.27.16

Benjamin Samuel Halperin married Elissa Wertheim Farkas, now Halperin, Saturday, December 20 in Farmingdale, New York. Elissa is a freelance television produce in Brooklyn and Ben is an associate with Skadden Arps in the New York office where he focuses on mass torts, insurance and consumer litigation. Posted 1.29.16

Kathryn Regina Brown and Matthew Heller (BE’09) were married August 8, 2015 in Villanova, Pennsylvania. The wedding party included best man William Runge (BE’09), groomsman Max Meyers (BS’09), bridesmaids Rachel Friedman '10 and Melanie Runge '13 (BA’09), and guests Abby Gail Meyers (BA’09, MD’13), Carlin Hess ’11 and the following members of the Class of 2012: Courtney Hess (BA’09), Emily Klick, Megan LaDriere, Geraldine Young Folmnsbee, Sarah Marberg, Nate Pysno, Alexandra Pichette, and Caitlin O'Malley. Kathryn and Matthew live in Philadelphia where Kathryn is an associate with Duane Morris. Matthew works remotely as a software developer for ACCRE at Vanderbilt University. Posted 8.28.15

Laura Elizabeth Deck has joined the U.S. Department of State as an attorney advisor based in Washington, D.C. She was previously an associate with Proskauer Rose in Boston. Posted 8.3.15

Lawrence Justin Tate has been promoted from the governor’s deputy legal counsel to the chief legal counsel for Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson. Before joining the administration, he worked at the secretary of state’s office as the associate general counsel. Posted 8.3.15

Grant Everett Starrett has launched a campaign to represent Tennessee’s Fourth Congressional District, a seat currently held by Representative Scott DesJarlais. Grant is currently vice president and special counsel at Lion Real Estate Group. Posted 4.26.15

Jack Todd Arnold has been appointed assistant district attorney general for Tennessee’s 23rd Judicial District. He was sworn in on March 3 and his duties will include prosecution of vehicular crimes, vehicular assault and vehicular homicide. Prior to earning his law degree from Vanderbilt, Jack worked in private practice for two years and served in the U.S. Army as an Arabic linguist and analyst. Posted 3.24.15

A new study, authored by Jennifer Shinall , assistant professor of law at Vanderbilt Law School, reports that overweight and obese women are more likely to work in the most labor intensive, lowest paying jobs. Professor Shinall’s research has been covered by NBCNews.com, The Wall Street Journal, The Huffington Post, The Washington Post, Forbes, The Guardian , and others. Posted 11.19.14

Nicholas Scott Bahnsen has joined the Newark office of Sills Cummis & Gross as an associate in the litigation practice group. Prior to joining the firm, Nicholas worked in the office of U.S. Representative Leonard Lance. Posted 10.22.14

Jacob Weinstein has joined Waller as an associate in Memphis. Jacob assists healthcare and financial services clients in a wide range of corporate transactional matters, including acquisitions, dispositions, and reorganizations. He previously was with Butler Snow. Posted 6.12.14

John Tate Spragens has joined the Nashville office of Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein. John will focus his practice on mass tort, consumer and financial fraud, and whistleblower cases. Prior to joining Lieff Cabraser, John served as communications director for Congressman Jim Cooper and as a reporter for the Nashville Scene. Posted 3.25.14

Alex Scarbrough '12Alex Scarbrough, has joined the Franklin, Tennessee, office of Thompson Burton as the leader of the firm's recently launched administrative lawpractice. Alex comes to Thompson Burton from her tenure as a law clerk with the Honorable William J. Haynes, Jr., Chief Judge of the Middle District of Tennessee, U.S. District Court. In addition to Alex's focus on advocating for her clients in administrative law, Alex will be assisting in the firm's existing litigation and employment law practice groups. Posted 9.18.13

 

 Kent Russell McKeever has opened Mission Waco Legal Services, a nonprofit providing legal services to underprivledged members of the greater Waco community. The program has three areas of specialization: immigration, housing and employment. In their first year, they served more than 130 clients. Kent and Mission Waco Legal Services were featured in a September 8 article in the WacoTribune. Posted 9.18.13

Cameron Kruger Pariseau (BA'09) has joined Trenam Kemker's Tampa, Florida office as an associate in the business transactions practice group. Prior to joining the firm, Cameron was an intern in the Enforcement Division of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, a legal consultant to MedSolutions, and an intern for Airbus Americas. Kathryn Regina Brown has begun a temporary clerkship for Judge Gene Pratter, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Following the clerkship, Katie will return to Duane Morris as an employment associate. Posted 5.1.13

Martin L. Holmes, an attorney with Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein, researched and co-wrote an article that has been published in a leading intellectual property journal. “Is Profiting from the Online Use of Another’s Property Unjust? The Use of Brand Names as Paid Search Keywords” appears in IDEA: The IP Law Review , Vol. 52, p. 131, 2013. The article sets out to answer whether Google’s profiting from the use of others’ brand in its AdWords program is unjust. Lee’s co-authors included Vanderbilt Law professor, Daniel Gervais; and Paul Wendell Kruse (BA’86; JD’89), a member at Bone McAllester Norton. Posted 5.1.13

Bethany Jo Whelan (BMus.’07) has joined Waddey & Patterson as an associate. Bethany, a registered patent attorney, will concentrate her practice areas on patents involving nutraceuticals, chemical engineering, pharmaceuticals, bioengineering and life sciences. Since 2011, Whelan has worked as a mediator with the Nashville Conflict Resolution Center, and she currently serves on the board of directors for the Tennessee Young Lawyers Division of the Nashville Bar Association. Jake W. Barnard, Robert Barnes McFarlane, Samara Annuzzi Meyers, and John Frederic Escherich have joined TheNew York City Law Department along with 22 fellow volunteers who are mostly recent law school graduates whose post-graduate employment is being funded through grants from their law schools for periods ranging from 10 weeks to one year. R ichard Dean Apple (MBA’12) has been named director, to oversee investment sourcing and management for one of the investment groups that has been among the most active in the TNInvestco arena. Council & Enhanced Tennessee Fund officials said Rick will be responsible day to day “for all aspects of the investment process, from deal sourcing and screening to portfolio monitoring and reporting.” Rick joined the Tennessee Fund and Council Capital — which partnered in 2009 with Enhanced Capital out of New York to launched a TNInvestco fund — two years ago while he was working on his MBA and JD degrees at Vanderbilt University. Jack Todd Arnold, of Kingston Springs, is running as an independent to represent Tennessee’s 7th U.S. House District. Jack spent a year in Iraq as an Army intelligence analyst before graduating law school.  He says campaign finance reform would be his first priority if elected. He also would focus on reforming the tax code and implementing term limits. Posted 6.22.12

Steven Craig Rushing has joined Finnegan Henderson Farabow Garrett & Dunner as an associate in the firm's Washington, DC office. Posted 6.21.12

Alexandra Mary Vuxton is engaged to Robert Bradley Guest. The couple met in 2008 during a study abroad program at University College at Oxford and became engaged in Nashville in November 2011. They are planning a spring 2013 wedding in Virginia. The couple will reside in Boston. Posted 5.24.12
